Interview Title: Exploring international filmmakers through Auteur Theory

Bio: Austen Vance is a filmmaker, photographer, and film student with a passion for cinema history, international filmmaking, and auteur theory. He is the creator of The Auteur Atlas, an educational YouTube series and comprehensive research database exploring global directors, their bodies of work, and the historical context surrounding their films. Through The Auteur Atlas, Austen aims to make international cinema and film theory accessible while encouraging audiences to explore films and filmmakers beyond what they already know.

When we limit ourselves to the films and filmmakers we already know, how much of cinema are we missing? By exploring international filmmakers through auteur theory, this presentation examines how filmmakers from different cultures have developed unique cinematic languages, and how discovering these different cinematic traditions can challenge our assumptions and expand the way we understand film.
