Title: Shooting Vertical Video: Shoot Once, Use Everywhere
Workshop Summary:
Today’s productions are no longer created for just one screen. Clients increasingly expect content that works in traditional 16:9 widescreen as well as 9:16 vertical and 1:1 square formats for social media. In this hands-on workshop, beginning filmmakers will learn how to compose and shoot professional video that can move successfully between televisions, computers, and mobile devices.
This month’s DC BUZZ will explore vertical composition, headroom, lead room, the rule of thirds, shot sizes, camera movement, and blocking for the tall frame. We will demonstrate how to shoot 16:9 while protecting vertical and square deliverables, set up frame guides on the Sony FX6, and compare single-camera, dual-camera, smartphone, and dedicated vertical-rig workflows. We will also examine the rapidly growing vertical-drama movement and why understanding 9:16 storytelling is becoming an essential skill for the next generation of visual storytellers.
