DC Buzz August Zoom Series: Interview Tanya Webb – Set Decoration

DC Buzz August Zoom Series presents:

Tanya Webb – Set Decoration

When: Thursday, August 26th at 7 pm – 8 pm EST.

This month’s DC Buzz will be hosted by Jessica Cobine, DCBS Lab Instructor. This hour-long Zoom session will feature Full Sail Film Bachelor’s grad (2015) Tanya Webb. Tanya has worked in various roles in the film industry in Atlanta and currently works as a Set Decoration Buyer. She has worked on shows and movies like Queens, Senior Year, and for Tyler Perry.

“After a lifetime of working jobs in multiple industries without using a hard-earned journalism degree, I decided in 2010 that I needed to reroute my life. It took three years, but I sold my house, quit my job, and in September 2013 entered Full Sail for the accelerated film program. Originally, I thought I wanted to go into the documentary side of film. Although it still interests me and I would happily work on such a production, for a variety of reasons I decided it might not be the best fit after all.

My goal through Full Sail was to immerse myself in every single class. When I hit the art department focus of the program, I found my niche. Graduating in August 2015, I moved to Atlanta, started networking, took a few tough production assistant gigs, and participated in some volunteer independent projects before landing at Tyler Perry Studios as the PA for set decoration in February 2016. The set decorator and I made a good team and he ultimately moved me into a buyer position, assisting in getting my IATSE membership approved in record time.

My eclectic work history and innate curiosity combined with my education seem to make a really good fit for set decoration and in particular the buyer position. I have never looked back on the decision to reroute my life. Let’s face it – I now get paid to do make-believe.” – Tanya Webb
